Duluth Trip 2011

We returned from a mini-vacation in Duluth yesterday! We had a BLAST! Jack said it was better than Disney World!?! (Guess we can save a lot of money from now on). He LOVED the pool with a huge waterslide, being in a hotel for the first time (since we usually go to FL and rent condos or townhomes), and even won 1st place in a dance contest on a dinner cruise on Lake Superior! Particularly enjoyable activities were: renting a double surrey and pedaling around Canal Park (we were laughing the entire time!), Gooseberry Falls (although Jack fell in the water, thankfully he was still safe), Split Rock Lighthouse, and Grandma's Restaurant for our favorite, the Steak Cheese French sandwich!

Gooseberry Falls pics posted first because I forgot them in the right order!

Love Gooseberry Falls!

Jason and Jack venturing out on the slippery rocks. I stayed on the flat ground.

We stopped at Burger King on the way to Duluth.

Our hotel was a sight for sore eyes after the long drive!

My boys checking out the bed in the hotel.

At the pool-- Jack's favorite place in all of Duluth!

My 2 Sweeties in the pool.

Little cutie-pie!

Love the bug-eyed black goggles.

We both conquered the water slide! (Take that, cancer!)

We probably went down that slide 8 times that day.

Whoosh!

Whoosh!

Ice Cream Cones at Canal Park Wharf.

I love boats! (*Note: we had originally planned to go to Cape Cod and Nantucket, etc.) Flights were all booked, so Duluth was our next choice. Thank the LORD, since we would have encountered Hurricane Irene had we gone to the East coast. Romans 8:28.

On the rocks by Lake Superior.

We rented a double Surrey and pedaled around Duluth! We laughed the whole way. I had the brunt of the weight, pedaling in the back. Jack thought it was hilarious!

Split Rock Lighthouse was incredible!

The enormous boulders in Lake Superior while standing at Split Rock.

With the Lighthouse Keeper. Split Rock Lighthouse was built in 1910 and still has the original lens/light.

World-famous Betty's Pies. We didn't even eat pie there!

Jack participated in many dances on the top deck, including the Cha Cha Slide, Dynamite, Electric Slide, Cotton-Eyed Joe, etc. Later, he WON 1st place in the dance contest with his own cool moves!

The Cha Cha Slide

He won this prize for 1st place! Our sweet boy shared the "gold" coins with the other top contenders!

Just the "4" of us! Ha ha! (Note Jason's shirt). He gets endless compliments on that one.

Before heading home: lunch at Little Angie's Cantina.
